Greetings, fellow Mafia members!

By the time you read this, the end of the 2007 season will be mere days away. That being the case, I’d like to take this brief opportunity to thank everyone associated with Fantasy Baseball Mafia for making this, our inaugural year as a “family”, a success.

The Fantasy Baseball Mafia, with its timely and valuable information, extremely high quality pod cast, helpful and supportive community, and ultra-competitive keeper leagues, is an incredibly innovative concept. I look forward to seeing it grow for years to come. Once again, my thanks to all of you who made this year a truly enjoyable experience.

Greetings, fellow Mafia members!

Hypocrite - According to Merriam-Webster Online … “a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings”. Uh, that would be me, I guess. Full disclosure? I definitely DID NOT want to do it, but I think I had little choice!

A few weeks back, I went on record with a frustrated rant that, in the end, threw “Pitch or Ditch” under the bus. Never again, I said. Well, roughly three short weeks later, with foot firmly implanted in mouth, I’ve enlisted, what seems like, the entire free agent list in a merciless assault on pitching sensibility.

If you read that piece, you’d know that my surprisingly competitive Mafia Mid-Season team had me lurking around the top of that league’s standings. In fact, for a couple of days, I even made it into 1st place. Well, my article must’ve jinxed Outlaws United BC because, since then, Keith Wire’s Existential Angst has blown past me like they were shot out of a cannon. Suddenly, I found myself about a dozen points back. Great job, Keith!

Greetings, fellow Mafia members! Short and sweet this week.

Batting average is a funny thing. In the Mafia (5X5) format, it represents only 20% of the value we get from an offensive player, yet we, generally, hold it in high enough regard that we’ll let a low batting average color our overall perception of a player.

Let me ask you this … if I offered you a second baseman, call him ‘Player X’, with a .299 BA and 28 HRs, could you refuse? Of course, you wouldn’t. On top of that, what if I told you that you could have him for a “bargain basement” price?

Dodgers activate 1b Nomar Garciaparra
Dodgers activated infielder Nomar Garciaparra from the 15-day disabled list.
Garciaparra will be available as a pinch-hitter, but since he can’t do more than jog because of his strained calf, manager Grady Little said he would use him only in a “game-breaking” situation

Greetings, fellow Mafia members!

I’m going to stick close to “home”, once again, this week, and take a keeper-value look at a deal that went down, literally at the trading deadline, in League 4.

My tenacious arch-nemesis, Tony in Hitchin and his Islington Pfeiffers, traded away Brian McCann and Albert Pujols. Who was the lucky recipient of ‘Mr. 1st Overall Pick’? How about mighty and omniscient Wire Tap expert, Mr. Tony in Jacksonville, K.C., The Bahamas, Boston or where ever the devil he is this week! By the way, that’s pronounced “om-nish-uh nt”, Mr. Tony, sir. You know, “having complete or unlimited knowledge, awareness, or understanding; perceiving all things”. It’s a compliment. 
