Mets call up RHP Carlos Muniz

WHO’S HOT & WHO’S NOT
HOTAlfonso Soriano- Carrying injuries all year it finally looks like Soriano is healthy and is ready to push the Cubs deep into the playoffs. Soriano hit .409 with 1SB, 7RBI, 6R and 4HR last week.Ryan Howard- The new strikeout king and MVP candidate tore it up last week hitting .347 with 4HR, 10RBI and six runs scored.Matt Holliday- Matt Holliday continued his great season last week and is now looking like the #1 fantasy outfielder for 2008. Holliday hit .400 with 4HR, 9RBI and six runs scored.

NOT

Paul Konerko- Konerko hasn’t been hitting since the end of July and this trend continued last week. Konerko went 1-19 with 0RBI and only one run scored.

Scott Olsen- In the words of Bob in Cleveland “Urf”, Olsen continued to disgrace himself last week pitching 7 innings over two games allowing twenty base runners and fourteen earned runs.

The Week Ahead- Who to Pick Up & Who to Avoid

PICK UP

New York Mets- 2.5 games up in the East with a magic number of 5 and facing an easy schedule the Mets should clinch this week. They play 7 at home against the Nats, Cards and Marlins. The Nats pitchers have cooled down in the second half of September, and the Marlins’ collective ERA over the past week is 6.15.

Toronto Blue Jays- Just like last year the Blue Jays are surging down the stretch and are looking to finish the season on a positive note. This week, the Jays have got seven games, and six of ‘em are against two of the coldest pitching staffs in captivity. The Jays finish the year with one against the Yankees followed by three against both the Orioles and D-Rays.

AVOID

Washington Nationals- The Nats will finish their year with a tough week. They open the week with thee games against the Mets and finish it with three against the Phillies. A 3-3 finish will see the Nats finish fourth in the NLEast standings and with Pedro Glavine and Cole Hamels facing them it’s gonna be tough.
