This week, I am really ready for the start of the baseball season. Games played here in America, home of the free, land of the normal start times for ball games.

Sunday night, the season gets kicked off with the Nationals opening their new home park. Fantasy Baseball Mafia Live! and The Wire Tap will be doing live podcasts during the game, and whilst I badly want to participate, my son has other plans for me.

And with draft season over, it’s time to start paying attention to everyone you might have been neglecting over the past few weeks. People like your wife and kids … or your girlfriend.  Or is it only me who does that?

The Good: Baseball season really gets underway!

Finally, regular season games in America get under way this week. I can just sit back and relax like a normal person and watch the games.

No more waking up before 6:00 AM to watch regular season games being played in Japan, and no more ‘dragging ass’ at work all day as a result of doing so.  Now, when I ‘drag ass’ it will be because I was up until 2:00 AM watching some all-important Nationals vs. Giants affair that’s gone into extra innings in San Fran — a much more acceptable reason.

Five games on ESPN Monday, followed by games on the good old MLB Extra Innings package every night for the next six months. Life will return to normal.

The Bad: The Nationals open a new park on Sunday Night.

Before all the games Monday, we get a special Sunday night game. The Braves travel to Washington D.C. to help the Nationals open their new ballpark. It’s a classic one game series as the Braves will play the next day in Pittsburgh at the Pirates home opener and the Nationals head to Philadelphia. Why? I have absolutely no idea on this one.

But I am getting off subject here. The reason this Sunday night game is bad is because I will have to miss much of it — I have a six-year old son who loves World Wrestling Entertainment and Sunday night is the WWE’s biggest night of the year.

It’s Wrestlemania, boys and girls! Not only do I get to miss baseball, I also get to pay $54.95 for the honor of not watching it in my home. My son is all pumped up - he can’t wait. The Big Show vs Floyd Mayweather, The Undertaker vs Edge, and Triple H vs John Cena vs Randy Orton. Ohhh, baby!

I want to see Lastings Milledge vs Tim Hudson, and I want to chat with Tony & Darryl. But nooooo! I will be the good daddy. I will sit down with my son, eat popcorn, and root for The Undertaker. I know how happy it makes him. But, as soon as he falls asleep, I will be here by the computer with the television tuned to Sunday Night Baseball. Maybe I will get to chat with Tony & Evan later on.

The Ugly: Making up.

Like I said before, my last draft was Tuesday night, so I will no longer be spending every free moment preparing for drafts. Saturday nights are now free again. I think I had a draft every Saturday night for the last six weeks. In fact, I had to stop and think about what it was I used to do on Saturday nights before draft season started.

That’s when it hit me: I have a girlfriend. Well, I had a girl friend. I remember buying her flowers for Valentines Day. And then spring training went into full swing, and we kinda drifted apart. I remember a few messages from her on my voice mail, but that was a while back. Should I give her a call? Do you think she’ll be mad? How mad could she be?

So I called her. I can’t really repeat what she said to me; “fantasy baseball geek” was thrown in there a few times, and that was by far the nicest thing she said to me. How could I explain to her my addiction? I decided to let her cool down a bit and call her again in a few days to try to make up.

Finally, she called me. It seems she’s “kinda-sorta” over it. We are going out tonight. And here’s the kicker: her dad got two tickets to the Yankees’ home opener Monday and gave them to her! Guess where I am going? The final Opening Day at ‘The House That Ruth Built’! Maybe I should give her some space more often?
