League 4

Greetings, fellow Mafia members!

We made it!  Finally, we can put the 2008 fantasy baseball season to bed.  Champions have been crowned, keeper lists have been submitted, and the playoffs are about to begin!  Oh, and for you hardcore fanatics … you know, the ones who are drafting in playoff fantasy baseball leagues, good luck!

Before I move on, however, I want to congratulate all of the winners of our Fantasy Baseball Mafia keeper leagues.  I especially want to humbly congratulate Fred in Cali, who quite resoundingly ripped League 4’s crown off of my head.  Fred, I bow to your superiority … for this year, at least.  :)

Mafia, I want to take an opportunity, in this, our last post of the 2008 season, to thank everyone in our community.  Without your participation, FantasyBaseballMafia.com couldn’t have become what it is today.  Our leagues give our family members the opportunity to play in extremely competitive environments.  Oh, to be sure, I know that not all leagues are created equal, and that some leagues are more competitive than others, but I sincerely hope your Mafia league experience has been enjoyable.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t extend a very special thanks to all of those family members who stepped forward at some point during the year to join our talented staff of writers and podcasters and provided us, the entire community, with loads of entertainment and knowledge.  Too numerous to mention them by name, we had close to 50 Mafia members who, at one time or another, wrote and/or edited articles, participated on shows as hosts or callers, and manned chatrooms.  Truly, this is an astounding accomplishment for such a young community, and it is testimony to how strong this endeavor has become … and an example of how much stronger it can be in the future.

As senior editor for the site, I’m utterly biased, but our most impressive feat, as far as I am concerned, has been our writing “streak”.  We started publishing content for the 2008 season on January 6th.  Almost ten months, and over 400 articles later, our “streak” comes to an end with this post.  In the meantime, we published at least one new piece of content each and every day of that run … something that we never deamed was possible.  Again, my personal thanks to all of our editors and writers.  Whether you published, or helped to publish, one piece for the season or one piece per week for the entire season, you should be extremely proud of yourselves.

In closing, I’ve learned a lot of things this year, but one of the things that has been most evident to me is the fact that so much can change over the course of a year.  We joke that a baseball season is a marathon.  People have come and gone, but the community remains.  If you’re leaving us after this year, we wish you luck.  If you’re coming back next year, we look forward to your return.  You’re the reason that FantasyBaseballMafia “is”.  You’re what can make it stronger.  Have a great off-season!

Most sincerely,

Bob in Cleveland
