The Treatment Room
Athletics place RHP Kiko Calero on the DL
The A’s placed Kiko Calero on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 17, with an inflamed right shoulder .Calero will be eligible to return on July 2 and might be ready then. If not, then he’ll probably be held out of action until after the break.
Cubs placed RHP Ryan Dempster on the DL
Cubs placed RHP Ryan Dempster on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 23, with
a strained left oblique. Dempster won’t be back until after the All-Star break. Bob Howry will serve as the closer while Dempster is out. Carlos Marmol and Mike Wuertz may also see some save opportunities.
The Treatment room
Rickie Weeks
Brewers activated 2B Rickie Weeks from the 15-day
disabled list. Weeks will take over the second base
spot; for the time being, it appears that Weeks will
not be slotted in to his usual leadoff spot, as
fill-in Corey Hart has been hitting very well.
Jim Edmonds
Cardinals placed OF Jim Edmonds on the 15-day disabled
list, retroactive to June 16, with a pinched nerve in
his lower back. So Taguchi has been filling the center
field void.

The Treatment Room
Henry Owens
Marlins placed RHP Henry Owens on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 9, with inflammation in his right shoulder. Obviously, the Marlins should have been more careful with him after he returned from the same problem on May 31. Beginning the next day, he made five appearances in eight days. The Marlins might hold him out of action through the All-Star break this
time.
Chipper Jones
Braves activated third baseman Chipper Jones from the 15-day disabled list. Chipper’s return will see Yunel Escobar move into the utility role. If/when Chipper gets hurt again, expect Escobar to get most of the playing time at third. Chipper is batting .318 with 12 HR and 27 RBI on the season.
The Treatment Room
Chris Reitsma
Mariners activated RHP Chris Reitsma from the 15-day disabled list.
Reitsma rejoins the Mariners without making a rehab appearance. He missed just one day more than the minimum with an inflamed elbow.
Fernando Rodney
Tigers activated RHP Fernando Rodney from the 15-day disabled list.
He takes the roster spot formerly occupied by Jose Mesa. Rodney will go right back into a setup role in front of Todd Jones.
The Treatment Room
Fernando Rodney
Fernando Rodney (biceps) played catch Tuesday and reported no problems. Rodney is eligible to return from the disabled list early next week and the Tigers reportedly expect him to do so. Rodney is 1-4 with a 4.71 era he has converted his only save opportunity.
Akinori Iwamura
Devil Rays activated third baseman Akinori Iwamura from the disabled list. Iwamura’s return as the everyday third baseman should make Ty Wigginton a fairly regular designated hitter. After returning he got hit in the eye with a baseball during batting
practice and will miss 4-5 days.
Shawn Green
Mets placed outfielder Shawn Green on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 26, with a fractured bone in his right foot. The Mets will use Endy Chavez and Carlos Gomez in the outfield corners until Moises Alou returns, something that will probably happen this weekend. Ben Johnson was called up to serve as a reserve. Chavez is a must pick up player if he is still on the wire, he is killing the ball at the moment, will get you some steals and is batting 2nd in a lineup that has Jose Reyes before him and Beltran, Delgado and Wright behind him. Not a bad position to
be in!
