Things change quickly in baseball. A player that, just one month ago, seemed to be having a bad season could be on the verge of a very good one; meanwhile, a player looking good just a week ago could be on the verge of a melt down that blows it all; and a team that had high hopes might just have to deal with the fact that they are really not that good.

Baseball players are like a box of chocolates - you never know what your gonna get.
Maybe you’ll get someone a bit nutty and injury prone with a good bat; or a pitcher who is like an entire box of chocolates himself - every time he pitches, you’re in for a surprise.
You may have a player who you thought was going to be a starter - but turned out to be a reliever - who is now going to be a starter. I like chocolate … sometimes.

Holy broken baseball bats, Batman! Mike Piazza retired! I wish I could find a catcher today that could hit the way he could. And I wish the Yankees could find someone that could hit. Something is missing in the Bronx: in the words of Paul Simon, “Where have you gone, Joe Torre?” Well - something like that.

We have reached the quarter mark of the baseball season. It is no longer early in the season - it is time to take a good hard look at your team and see where you need to improve. And I’m not talking just about your team as a whole but also at the individual players on your team. Which players did you draft or pick up and have been a disappointment … and is it time to cut bait and waive them? Who has played better then expected, and can you count on them to keep it up? Sell high? Buy low? It is time for Major League teams to do the same. How have their off-season pickups been working out?

Something ‘screwie’ is going on in ‘St. Louie’: The Cardinals are winning! Who knew? How are they doing it? Can they keep it up? Are there any players on this team that can help my fantasy team? Hmmmm.
This situation is one I need to look into a little more deeply.

I barely found the time to write my column this week. But I did it! It’s been hard to find the time to do a lot of things lately. I have been so busy that I almost missed Chipper Jones’ birthday. Raise your glass for a toast. \~/ … here’s to a healthy year for Chipper. Hey, it could happen. And maybe Carlos Delgado can turn things around too. : )

The weather is getting nice and warm here in New Jersey. Perfect weather for some BBQ. Throw some baby backs on the grill, and watch the ‘Baby Backs’ on the tube. Sweet!
My goal this year is to finish first in every league. I’m sure you all have the same goal. I do not want to finish second. And I have absolutely no desire to finish third! One good thing about all my teams: David Ortiz is not on any of my rosters!

We are rolling now. The Royals are winning and Zack Greinke has been a big part of it. The Tigers have looked awful — did anyone see that coming? Well, I know someone who did. And rain has become more annoying than ever, especially if you’re a young pitcher — no one wants their young pitchers to get wet. You never know what could happen! Remember what happened to the wicked witch in the Wizard of OZ when she got wet? Help me … I’m melting …

Baseball season is in full swing! Games every night. Fun, fun, fun! Unless, of course, you are trying to figure out who will be playing and where they will be hitting in the Dodger line-up; or maybe you’re a Giants fan and saw their first two games - looks like it’s going to be a long season in San Fran. Hey! It could be worse: you could be looking for a closer for your fantasy team!

This week, I am really ready for the start of the baseball season. Games played here in America, home of the free, land of the normal start times for ball games.
Sunday night, the season gets kicked off with the Nationals opening their new home park. Fantasy Baseball Mafia Live! and The Wire Tap will be doing live podcasts during the game, and whilst I badly want to participate, my son has other plans for me.
