02.07.08 Fantasy 411 notes:
Like most of you, I listen or now days, watch the 411 on MLB.com. I don’t know if your like me but I often get distracted and or zone out and miss much of what is being discussed. For this reason, I started taking notes during the show. It occurred to me that they might be of benefit to all of you as well so here goes.
Thoughts on the Johan trade -
AL to NL
Doesn’t face the DH
Goes from Neutral park to one that increases K rates and diminishes HR’s
Good defensive team behind him, one that scores runs.
Goes to a team with a good bullpen, he’s only 29
411 goes daily on Feb 19th, will be a three man rotation of Cory, Mike and Casey.
Schilling could be out for season reports the Boston Herald. Boston is looking into voiding his 08 contract. Curt may have pitched his last game in the biggs.
K Escobar expected to start the season on the DL. Start looking at a SP in the 6th or 7th round. Don’t wait till 8th or 9th round.
Dave Bush views - Remains a good upside guy, always puts up a good K to walk rate, a decent ground ball rate but extremely high home run rates. good gamble but not a target, he is a list of 12 guy this year though.
Guys who might break out -
Swisher = doubles into homers.
E Encarnacione - right combo of age and talent could have a big year. With luck and health could hit .325 with 25 Hr’s - G Adkins type season (target guy)
Francoeur - braves expected to have a strong lineup
C Gomez - very raw, hasn’t had a full season in AAA, even money shot at going back to Triple A.
BJ Upton - 2nd base eligible, power and speed, expect a decline in average but a bump in all the other numbers.
J Mauer - High average, weak position. .320, 12-15 hr’s 85 rbi’s and runs
A Dunn - consistent 40 HR guy, maybe 10 bags
C Figgins - .290 hitter lots of steals
C Hart - not a superstar, a real chance to go 20/20
A Jones - late single to early teen rounds, should bounce back, no 51 homers. maybe .260
A Soriano - 5 category value, not a first rounder and to Cory, not even a second rounder
R Soriano - Fly ball prone but Turner is as good a place as any to be a fly ball pitcher

Excellent stuff Bob! I listen to the podcast on the way home from work and often will try to remember certain points in the show where they say something I want to look into further. Are you going to do this on a regular basis?
I plan to do them as regularly as I can, I did them in the past with Johnny Archive but we stopped for a long time and I just felt like writing
Much appreciated. I always listen to the 411 while doing something else, so going back to read the notes helps. This is definitely why you’re a Hall of Famer, Sir.
