On March 20th 2008 I participated in the much coveted Fantasy 411 Listener league draft. This is my first year in the 411 league, I was invited to play First in the Paul C Smith league in 06 and against many great competitors was able to squeak out a win. I was advanced to the Klayman league for the 07 and ultimately the “big boy” league (the 411 league) for this, the 08 season.

Many of our members are also in listener leagues organized by the 411 and for all of them and myself I would like to again thank Cory and Mike for all they do, not just for the listeners but for us as a web site and all of us participants in the leagues. Here’s to a great 2008 season.

As you know, or maybe you don’t, I proclaimed to the mafia “if our rankings are good enough for our members, they are good enough for me to use in the 411 league” and that’s what I did. I pre-ranked 420 players into ESPN prior to the draft and deviated from it very rarely.

Everyone won’t agree with my picks, I know this, but time will tell just how effective our Mafia top 420 has been. Below you will find the draft results and my picks (Caveat Emptor) in bold.

02.07.08 Fantasy 411 notes:

Like most of you, I listen or now days, watch the 411 on MLB.com. I don’t know if your like me but I often get distracted and or zone out and miss much of what is being discussed. For this reason, I started taking notes during the show. It occurred to me that they might be of benefit to all of you as well so here goes.

Change… No matter how hard you try, change is always going to happen. In this case it’s MLB’s transition to the Baseball Channel.

Many of us have grown up with MLB radio. We’ve seen it grow from it’s humble begennings into what we have now. A full service, one-stop shop for all things baseball. MLB offers blogs, pod casts and constantly updated baseball news, now all in Video format.

Unfortunately we will see the end of an era in the 2008 season. There will officially be no more MLB Radio. Welcome to the new and improved Baseball Channel.

The Fantasy 411 is an internet radio show hosted by Mike Siano and Cory Schwartz. Each year they compete with listeners in the coveted “fantasy 411 listener league”. The Fantasy 411 radio show on MLB sponsors 5 leagues but the hosts only play in one, the 411 league.

I’m happy to announce that on Thursday the 10th of January’s Fantasy 411 radio show, Mike Siano announced I would fill the vacant spot left by Stray in the 411 league.

I’ve wanted to Play in the Fantasy 411’s Fantasy baseball League since I found the 411 years ago, to be able to pit yourself against the pro’s, we all share that dream don’t we?

I will be drafting using the Fantasy Baseball Mafia top 420 rankings for the 2008 season. Luke in Nova Scotia is our Director of stat based research and assures me that he will send me in to battle with updated rankings and all the tools I need to win my draft; the same tools we will be offering to you, our members.

If it’s good enough to put the Fantasy baseball Mafia name on, then it’s a set of rankings I’m willing to go to battle with.

Follow along all season as I update you on the progress of our Fantasy Baseball Mafia team in the Fantasy 411 League. I hope to bring you news of our dominance, including trades of interest, smack and the complete fantasy 411 draft.

Stay tunes as the Godfather goes to war…
