Being an architect and sports fan, I greatly appreciate new stadiums. If I weren’t an architect, I’d probably have been a sports statistician with architecture as a hobby. Instead, I’m an architect with sports statistics as a hobby.
Let me share this link with you of Tamps Bay’s new Stadium. It’s a nice design, but I like it more for its inovation. I’m very curious as to how the “roof” open. The article describes the photo in the closed position.
Enjoy!
There seems to have been a decreased number of participants in last weeks Mock Drafts and if it continues, we’ll have to cut back to just one Public Mock Draft and one Members Only Mock Draft.

AL East Over / Under
At the onset of my Over / Under articles I did not intend to make the AL East my last topic. It never even crossed my mind. However, this might be the toughest of the divisions to scrutinize because my emotions are tied to it. I’ve been a New York Yankee Fan since my New Jersey born grandfather took me to Yankee Stadium in 1984. I witnessed the New York Yankees defeat the Chicago White Sox 7-0 on August 07th. Since then I’ve followed the Yankees as if they were a father figure. I understand they’ll spend any amount of money to help them win and for most baseball fans it’s an unfair advantage. But what I’ve learned over the past 7 years is that money can’t buy you a World Series. I’ve also learned that without the Red Sox, the Yankees wouldn’t be as hungry to win as they are. I do not hate the Red Sox, I’d love to have David Ortiz play for the Yankees and Manny being Manny is fun for baseball. All that asside, my feelings can’t prevent me from being honest and honestly I don’t think the best team in the AL East is the New York Yankees.
- Baltimore Wins 70-1/2 games
- Boston Wins 98-1/2 games
- New York Wins 96-1/2 games
- Tampa Bay Wins 77-1/2 games
- Toronto Wins 78-1/2 games
Please comment with the line number and “Over”, or “Under”.
Thank you for your comments throughout and I’ll be sure to post all the Over / Under columns in one post so we can see where we stand at the end of the 2008 season.

Good mocking!!!
There are only a few things in life that have made me come to tears: the beauty of my wife walking down the isle on our wedding day, the birth of my first son and the loss of an uncle who guided me through childhood. If the Yankees end up signing Alex Rodriguez after stating they would not particitate in negotiations if he opted out of his contract and they lose Mariano Rivera to another team, the combination of those two events may break me down just as only a few other events have in my lifetime.
If there is one word that has accurately portrayed the Yankees since I became a fan in 1978, it’s Pride. If the Yankees allow for the two events above to occur, they would have swallowed and crapped out a large part of it in one offseason.
Thankfully, Yankee Fans will have the opportunity to see Jorge finish his career as a Yankee.

If I Were My Favorite Team’s RL GM
By Jay the Techie
Each year we get a chance to play Fantasy General Manager (GM) by drafting our own Fantasy Team and anyone who says an experienced Fantasy Manager doesn’t know a thing about being a real life (RL) General Manager isn’t playing the Fantasy Sports. The fact is, to a degree, we do a lot of the things a RL GM does. We evaluate talent, we draft players, we make trades, we pick up Free Agents and we try and build the best team possible to win us a Championship. So each off-season I put myself in the shoes of my favorite team’s GM and think of the best moves I’d make that would allow my team the best opportunity to win a World Series Championship. This would be my list of free agent acquisitions and player trades if I were General Manager of the New York Yankees.Free Agent Signed
Jorge Posada, Alex Rodriguez, Joe Kennedy, Mariano RiveraPlayers to potentially offer in Trades (not all of them of course)Johnny Damon, Jason Giambi, TJ Beam, Brian Bruney, Chris Britton, Tyler Clippard, Matt DeSalvo, Sean Henn, Kei Igawa, Jeff Karstens, Russ Ohlendorf, Darrell Rasner, Humberto Sanchez, Chase Wright, Alberto Gonzalez, Juan Mirando, Shelly DuncanPlayers to attempt to acquire in Trade (not all of them of course)Ryan Garko, Todd Helton, Paul Konerko,, Heath Bell, Joaquin Benoit, Rafael Bentancourt, Juan Cruz, Jonathon Broxton, Damaso Marte, CJ Wilson, Carlos MarmolResigning A-Rod, Posada and Mo would be my top 3 priorities.
Priority 4 would be to sign a Free Agent pitcher and among this years choices, I think Joe Kennedy would be a good fit..
Priority 5 would then be to try and trade, either and or both, Johnny Damon and Jason Giambi for a First Basemen understanding we would most likely have to pay a considerable portion of their salaries.
Priority 6 would be to acquire middle and back end relief.I would foresee a Starting Rotation of Wang, Hughes, Mussina, Pettitte (if he executes his player option) and either Ian Kennedy, Tyler Clippard, Russ Ohlendorf, or Joba Chamberlain (if he’s not in the SR, then he’s Mo’s setup guy).Garko would be my first choice for a First Baseman followed by Konerko then Helton.Lastly, after the Spring Training started, I let Don Mattingly have the say in all on field moves as new Manager for the New York Yankees. If readers would reply with what they’d do with their favorite team if they were the RL GM, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
It’s not often that you get to come home again… twice! From 1992 through 1996, from 1998 through 2001 and now in 2007, Kenny Lofton is what typifies a playoff superstar.
On a team of super inexperienced playoff players, Kenny Lofton is the brain, heart and soul of the Cleveland Indians this post season. From key hits in the ALDS, to a huge tone setting home run in game 3 of the ALCS he is the most important piece of the Indians clubhouse.
Only two active players, Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada have more post season experience than Lofton. At 6, only David Wells has appeared in the playoffs with a different team as much as Lofton.
If the Indians plan to continue the momentum they now have with a 2-1 series lead, it’s going to be Kenny Lofton that initiates it and capitalizes on it over the next 2-4 games.
Go Kenny!
